What makes home birth safe?

We are always screening to ensure you are low risk throughout your pregnancy, labor, and postpartum period. While every risk cannot be eliminated, healthy women usually have healthy outcomes!

Several studies show that out of hospital birth for low risk women results in fewer interventions and cesareans.

We will develop a plan ahead of time in case hospital transfer is needed.

What about cost?

In order to provide a truly personalized experience and maintain an intimate case load, we are cash pay. Cost for midwifery care (prenatal care, birth, and a minimum of three postpartum visits) is $6,500. In addition, there is a $150 non-refundable administrative fee as well as a birth assistant fee to ensure two professionals trained in neonatal resuscitation are present for your birth. Payments are required in installments that are completed by 36 weeks.

If you have insurance, we work with an independent biller to submit for possible reimbursement after birth.

We are certified out of network with Tricare.

Healthcare sharing ministries usually reimburse 100% of home birth costs.

Other common home birth questions

  • Yes! I have a limited number of inflatable birth tubs available to rent or you can purchase your own. Water during labor and birth (called hydrotherapy) is an incredibly helpful tool for comfort and coping during labor and birth.

  • Short answer: no. I strongly believe you deserve to be surrounded by people who love you and are able to best support you. This includes family, friends, children, and doulas.

  • I do not offer classes, but I will provide you with a list of excellent area birth professionals. I require you and your partner to take a class if this is your first birth or first unmedicated birth.

  • We know that having a doula will increase your likelihood of successfully birthing out of hospital and looking back at your birth experience fondly. If this is your first birth, I do strongly encourage you to hire a doula. I will provide you with referrals for local doulas, but you are not limited to that list.

  • In the rare event I am unable to come to your birth, I have several other wonderful home birth midwives I can request to attend your birth. I keep my client list small in order to truly get to know you and minimize this possibility.

  • I will order and draw labs at your visits. I may send you to a local laboratory in certain instances. All labs are billed through your insurance or billed to you if you are self pay. Likewise, I will order any ultrasounds needed throughout your pregnancy. I provide a list of local radiology offices.

  • I will refer you to or consult with other medical providers if needed.
